Letter book, 1843-1850, kept by Thomas Macfarlan, who was agent for Peter Gerard Stuyvesant and the executors of his estate, Gerard Stuyvesant, Hamilton Fish, and Lewis Morris Rutherfurd. The correspondence deals with real estate and other business matters; it includes references to the financial interests of other members of the Stuyvesant and Rutherfurd families. Some letters include detailed descriptions of improvements to the properties, such as connections to Croton water and city sewers. Most of the real estate was in New York City, but there are also references to properties in Newark, Jersey City, Richfield Springs (N.Y.), and Brooklyn. The volume is accompanied by a few miscellaneous related papers, as well as two letters from Jane H. Street dated 1905.
